May 2011

Bruderheim's Senior Citizen's Club, currently at 52 members, was registered as a society in 1974. Since that time, the group has contributed a great deal to life in Bruderheim. The Town of Bruderheim counts the Senior Citizen's Club as a valuable community partner, and would like to thank them for their dedicated involvement.

The group often participates in community events, such as Volunteer Appreciation Night, church VBS, and fundraisers for a number of causes. To name a few, Skip Rope for Heart and Stroke, Stephies Biketour in Ft Saskatchewan, reading at school, and helping out the local Lions and Bruderheim Ag Society. The Seniors are an interactive bunch, often involved in other clubs in town and sometimes hosting seminars and workshops of interest to older people, such as heart and stroke, diabetes, RCMP fraud.

Originally, several members belonged to a Choral group, had costumes and ententertained and competed in song festivals at various facilities.  From those beginnings, the Club has grown to provide pool tables and shuffleboard at the Senior's Centre, located on Queen Street, even inviting outsiders to join in for annual pool tournaments. The Centre is also available to rent for small gatherings including birthdays, funerals, weddings.

Come Join Us!

Membership is offered to people 50 years and older who are looking for company or to make new friends. Once a month the group has a pot luck supper at 6:00 pm which allows time to socialize after supper. Funds raised from the 50/50 draw or from donations is often passed on to charities or other groups. For example, in May of 2011, the Alzheimers Footprints of Hope received the funds. These suppers are open to all ages.

The Centre is open from September to June, Tuesday 10am to noon and 7pm to 9pm; Wednesday 10am to noon; and Thursday afternoon from 1 to 3. At these times members will floor curl, play cards or board games, have coffee and socialize.  People of all ages are welcome to stop by for a chat.
