Senior's Club Activities

The Bruderheim Senior's Club holds these regular drop-in hours at the Seniors Centre:

September to June, Tuesday 10am to noon and 7pm to 9pm; Wednesday 10am to noon; and Thursday afternoon from 1 to 3.

Information for Members

The Senior Citizens Club of Bruderheim is a volunteer group of 50+ citizens who meet for social programs and recreation at the Seniors Centre at times specified by the group at general meetings.  Anyone 50 years old or older may join.

Member volunteers maintain our building.  They cut grass, shovel snow, dust, wash and wax floors, vacuum, or make repairs as necessary.

The club is a member of ASCSRA (ALBERTA SENIOR CITIZENS SPORT AND RECREATION ASSOCIATION.) We are in Zone 6, which includes Fort Saskatchewan, Ardrossan, and Sherwood Park. We join them for inter-club competitions.  We hold our inter-club day in November, usually the first Monday of the month.

We need a variety of fund raisers to help pay our utilities (~$4,500 per year) and other expenses, such as coffee, bathroom supplies, etc.  We also apply for grants when they are available.

Our fund raisers are for:

  • MAINTENANCE FEES - The options are either to pay a dollar into the coffee fund each time you show up, or for you to pay $40 a year (that can also be paid in two portions, semi-annually), in addition to the $10 annual membership fee.
  • MORNING COFFEE and GAMES - One volunteer opens our center for this and is responsible for making the coffee and cleaning up after.  He or she is also responsible for keeping the bathrooms clean and for general tidying of the building.  The monies are counted and recorded in a book in the cupboard.  There is a list put up and we ask for a volunteer each week.  A key to the building is available for that individual.
  • SUPPERS or LUNCHES - One supper is held every month.  It is not likely that you will be able to find a tastier meal (including coffee, juice and deserts) in a community setting anywhere for the low price charged.  It is a $30-value for a ten-dollar price.
A volunteer committee plans the meals.  The composition of the committee can change from month to month.  The committee makes up a menu and asks members to contribute to the meal.  The meat is supplied by the club (buy whatever is needed, and the club will right away provide re-imbursement).  Except when a supper is catered (that rarely happens - usually just for our Christmas supper), the charge for a supper per person is $7.00 for members and $10.00 for non-members, and for lunch (soup-and-sandwiches, on special occasions only) it is $5.00 per person.  Visitors are welcome, but seating is limited to a total of 60.
  • FIFTY-FIFTY DRAWS - We hold those at our suppers or we have a small raffle for additional funding.
  • HOME- or BUSINESS-PARTIES - Anyone who wishes to use our building to present their merchandise is expected to give us a share of their profits.
The building can be rented by club members for family parties, at $50.00 for the day.
It is expected that whoever uses the building for a party will clean up and restore the condition of the building to what it was before he used it for the party.
  • POOL TOURNAMENTS - The men manage those, and club members will supply food to be sold to the players, as the tournament lasts from 10 a.m. until about 2:30 - 3:00 p.m.
  • RENTAL of FURNITURE or BOOKS - Members may borrow tables, chairs or books and take them home without charge.  There is a charge for that for non-members.  Anything rented or borrowed must be signed out in the book that is in the kitchen drawer (centre-drawer under the coffee machine).

Any member of the executive will help you if you have any questions.  Enjoy your club and the friends you make here, and, most importantly: bring a friend or two….Who has more fun than people?  More people!
