Bruderheim lies within the Fort Air Partnership Airshed, an area covering approximately 4,500 square kilometres northeast of Edmonton. Outdoor air quality is monitored by the Fort Air Partnership (FAP), an independent not-for-profit society, with data collected from eight continuous monitoring stations and 57 sites that sample on a monthly basis.

In May of 2010, the Town of Bruderheim became home to FAP's newest Air Quality Monitoring Station. It is located in the open lot behind the Post Office and will be one of only four stations to provide the data necessary for Alberta Environment to calculate an Air Quality Index every hour. The Air Quality Index rating was developed by Alberta Environment to allow communities to easily determine an overall measure of their local outdoor air quality. The index gives ratings of Good, Fair, Poor or Very Poor, and is based on concentrations of carbon monoxide, fine particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide, ozone and sulphur dioxide. |

A regularly updated Air Quality Index for the Bruderheim station will be accessible online from Alberta Environment's website.
In 2009, the FAP monitoring network determined outdoor air quality in the airshed to be rated, on average, as 'Good' between 91% and 96% of the time. 'Good' is the best possible rating and means that there are no harmful effects to human or environmental health.
