Fire Pit Regulations
Fire pits are permitted within the Town of Bruderheim but there are rules and regulations that must be adhered to:
- You must obtain a fire pit permit from the Town Office. This is a one time permit (does not have to be renewed annually) and the cost is $10. Application forms are available on our Forms Page or at the Town Office.
- The fire pit MUST have a grate on it, with the mesh being no larger than ¼ inch.
- The height of the fire pit must be less than 0.6 meters (2 feet) high; the opening must not exceed 1 meter (3 feet) in width or in diameter.
- Fire pits MUST be a minimum of 10 feet away from any fence, structure, overhang of a structure, or tree.
- Before burning in the fire pit, it MUST be inspected by the Fire Chief. When the application for a permit is brought back to the office, the information is passed on to the Chief and he will make arrangements to come out to do the inspection.
- The fire pit can not be constructed over gas lines or electrical lines.
- Only untreated wood, propane, natural gas or charcoal may be used in the fire pit.
- A fire pit CANNOT be used to burn garbage, garden refuse, coal, treated wood, plywood, plastics, or other material that may produce black smoke or toxic fumes.
- The fire pit must be under control at ALL TIMES.
- If a fire gets out of control, and the Fire Department has to take action, possible punitive action may be taken.
- The fire must be TOTALLY extinguished before leaving or retiring for the evening.
- Portable fire pits do not require a permit but must be operated in a safe manner.
- Propane powered outdoor fireplaces do not require a permit and are not subject to fire bans. Extra care should be taken operating propane appliances in dry conditions.
BE SAFE!!
Have a charged garden hose near the fire pit at all times. Burn small, controlled fires and obey any fire bans that may be imposed throughout the season.
Never leave your fire pit, portable fire pit, or propane fireplace unattended.
