The next municipal election is Monday, October 18, 2021. 


The Town of Bruderheim will hold a municipal election on Monday, October 18, 2021, for voters to elect one Mayor and 6 Councillors.

1. Candidate Information


The Local Authorities Election Act (as amended) governs municipal elections in Alberta, providing the rules and regulations for candidates, donors, electors, and election administrators that must be followed before, during and after an election.

The Local Authorities Election Amendment Act, 2020 (Bill 29) made a number of important changes to the Local Authorities Election Act that will affect upcoming local elections.

These amendments include changes to:

  • Advertising
  • Contributions to campaigns
  • Length of nomination period


Changes to the Local Authorities Election Act came into effect on September 1, 2020. More information about these changes made by Alberta Municipal Affairs can be found in the Local Authorities Election Act Changes FAQ.

Candidates may consider seeking legal advice regarding their obligations and to understand the changes that were implemented.

2. Candidate Package


Those interested in running for Mayor or Councillor for the Town of Bruderheim can find information about becoming a candidate in the Candidate Guide.

3. Candidate Nomination Period


Candidates may submit their completed nomination papers starting January 1, 2021 up until 12:00 noon on September 20, 2021. The nominations papers must be accompanied with a deposit of $100.00.

Completed Nomination Papers may be delivered in person to the Town Office at 5017 Queen Street, Bruderheim, placed in the outside drop box of the administration office, or mailed to Box 280, Bruderheim, Alberta, T0B 0S0

It is the candidate's responsibility to ensure the submissions are received at the administration office by the end of the nomination period.



4. Council Meetings


Council meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month commencing at 7:00 PM.  Council packages are available for members of Council the Friday prior to the meeting. Bylaw 11-2019 outlines the Proceedings of Council for your reference.

Following the 2021 Municipal Election, successful Candidates will be sworn in as member of Town Council at a Swearing-In Ceremony to take place on October 27, 2021, followed by the Organizational Meeting of Council.
